Converting cash into chips in blackjack

You can place bets using either money or casino chips. If you need to convert a bill to chips, place it next to or above the betting box, never hand it to the dealer. Be careful not to place it an a betting box for the dealer might think it is a bet and deal out the hand. The dealer will not stop to onvert your cash until the current hand is concluded, so don’t think she is ignoring your. If you lay out a large bill, it will be entirely converted to chips, the dealer can not make change. You may, however, ask for specific denominations of chips. The common terms for 5USD chips are nickels or reds, for 25USD chips they are quarters or greens. The denomination is always indicated on the center of the chip, along with the name of the casinos.
When you quite playing and are ready to change your chips back to cash, you have to do that at the cashier’s cage. The cashier’s cage is also the only place where you can cash traveler’s checks, money orders, or personal checks. If you present one of these items to the dealer, she will direct you to the cashier.
To make payoffs easier and faster, the dealer will often pay winners with high denomination chips. If you have accumulated the stack of greens, but would prefer to play reds, just ask the dealer for change. If you leave the table with a big pile of chips, you can ask the dealer to convert them to a larger denomination so that they are easier to handle. This is called change in color.
